Wikipedia –Edit-a-thon
Introduction to Wikipedia:
Wikipedia is a free online encylopedia that aims to allow to anyone to edit any article and create them.It is largest and most popular general reference work on the internet.
Edit-a-thon
Wikipedia  Edit-a-thon is an event which people to work together in person to build the content on a wiki. Edit-a-thon is a special type of meet up focus on specific encylopedia topic and is a great way to attract new Wikipedians.
Implementation
In our school we are  conducting essay competitions to childrens for various festivals. From that we had found students having very good proficiency skills in tamil.  We are selected 20 children from school to edit in Wikipedia. Miss.Sindhuja ,Wikipedian from Pondicherry Wikipedia Community  had taken a session on how to edit the article on 07.11.2016
Session Comprises of the following things:
1. Introduction to Wikipedia
2. History of Wikipedia
3. How Wikipedia helps to understand particular concepts with recent updates.
4. How to create an account and edit the article.
Outcome:
Edit-a-thon improve the encylopedia and can be a great way to help new wikipedians learn to edit.
It helps to improve the students proficiency skills .
It is an opportunity to improve the quality of Wikipedia by a
Students edited some articles , related to education software such as Tux paint, Stellarium etc.
Its helps to edit/extend the articles in various languages.
Collaborative learning activities done at the workshops.

Freedom in Computer Learning(ICT Report)

ICT Report

Introduction to Free Software
Free Software is software which provides users to study, modify, copy and re-distribute the software based on their needs. This software released under the GPL (General Public License).
Why free software in schools?
ü  The computer source is completely open to all, students able to the learn the code and helps to improve the code, redistribute the code with neighbors .
ü  Free software can save schools money. Savings are possible because free software gives schools, like other users, the freedom to copy and redistribute the software; the school system can give a copy to every school, and each school can install the program in all its computers, with no obligation to pay for doing so.
ü  Schools have a social mission: to teach students to be citizens of a strong, capable, independent, cooperating and free society.
ü  Free software permits students to learn how software works. Some students, natural-born programmers, on reaching their teens yearn to learn everything there is to know about their computer and its software.
Implementation
Free Software group took special interest in promoting the main aspects of the philosophy of the everyone having equal opportunity without any interpretation such as the freedom to share knowledge and the freedom to cooperate with our community by contributing improvements to computer programs. This awareness about  Free software was largely the result of what we learned at the meeting organized by the Free Software Hardware Movement , in the nearby city of Pondicherry. Attending those meetings also helped us to work in close connection with the Free Software community.

How We Did It
ü  Academicians from Free software group conduct pre-test for students and take analysis report based on that they prepared syllabus .
ü  They selected nearly 150 students from Class VI to IX. They had taken ICT training session  for students from  computer basics to programming for 3 months.
ü  They had provided resource materials for ICT Classes for further improvement of students.
Training was not limited to software, it also included teaching the basics of hardware maintenance to teachers and students. In our school, 14 years old students know how to assemble a PC.The use of Free programs in the classroom was facilitated by the implementation of training modules aimed at instructing teachers on the use of specific programs for teaching various subjects. For example, there was a training module for teachers of Mathematics on how to use Dr Geo for teaching geometry, another one for teachers of Chemistry on how to draw organic molecules using Chemtool, and many others.
Other training activities were conducted jointly by the school and FSHM Pondicherry  to teach us the use of different Free Software applications such as Blender, Inkscape, and the command line interface.

Commitment to Free Software
At the beginning the new system was used on a dual-boot basis, because we teachers were not familiar with Free Software, but we soon got acquainted with it to a great extent. Free Software is being used in the classroom and in the administration offices. We use a wide range of free programs in the classroom, such as GIMPTux PaintAudacityGPeriodic and LibreOffice, but there are many others.
Students are also introduced to Wikipedia(Online Encylopedia)
 Result
Education in the State of Puducherry  has become "IT-enabled", meaning that students are getting first hand technology knowledge while learning regular curriculum subjects outside the IT Lab. This is possible due to the large number of high quality educational applications available in GNU/Linux.

Our STEM LAND Visit. STEM (Science , Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Land is learning center and resource center that Aura Auro is setting up in Udavi School,Auroville

STEM Lab Visit

STEM (Science , Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Land is learning center and resource center that Aura Auro is setting up in Udavi School,Auroville. From our school team of 20 students & 2 teachers visited the STEM Lab on 11.12.2016. We had met the STEM Lab Initiator Mr.Sanjeev Ranganathan who had passion in innovative teaching.  He said , The school uses theory of constructivism which says knowledge is not taught to a learner but recreated by the learner on his or her own,. It encourages learning by doing and discovery learning.
The STEM Lab encompasses a vast array of subjects that fall of subjects that fall into each of those  term.  STEM areas include engineering, astronomy, computer science, physics and robotics among many, many others.  As evidenced by the multitude of discipline, it is clear that STEM fields affect virtually every component of our everyday lives.
The Lab equipped with more than 200 puzzles & Strategy games. The students get to use the Arduino technology an open source electronic prototyping platform to create interactive electronic objects. They are using FOSS(Free  & Open Source Software)  for programming(Scratch, Alice, Spider), 3D Animation(Blender).
A Group of children  working in mathematics project using Scratch Programming. One of the child from IX standard She explained, how to understand the mathematical formula by using 3D Animation.
Children  had interaction with the teachers &  students. Students playing puzzles, solving rubik cube  & programming done  by using Scartch & Alice under the guidance of the volunteers from Auro Aura design. The Class IX  girl dreams of becoming a computer scientist, she says and wants to write a program which can  used for space research. Some of projects which was created by students

The resource centre is also adults to experiment and create at its “maker space” With a material room and building room..

This method of teaching will help for children to better level of understanding in a particular concept. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. Occupations in STEM-related careers are some of the fastest growing and best paid of the 21st century, and they often have the greatest potential for job growth.
